As an artist and lover of nature, I am inspired and compelled to create. The rusty patina of an old car, the weathered paint on a building and the patterns, shadows, colors, and details I see motivate me to pick up a brush.
I grew up in Detroit, always creating, and often reprimanded in school for drawing instead of paying attention. I was one of those kids who hung out in my high school art room with the very cool Catholic nun. It wasn’t a surprise to anyone that I wanted to major in art in college, but unfortunately it was not the experience I had hoped for. I leaned toward realism, and professors did not want “Hallmark card” art. I stuck with it and graduated with a minor degree in art, and a major in business.
I was a prolific quilter before I was a painter, but once I discovered a painting group with an incredibly dynamic teacher and art-loving women, I embraced the painting experiences. I was fortunate to have others who influenced and helped me develop my painting skills throughout the years. They made such an impression that I often “hear” their mantras as I am painting.
I feel so very fortunate to be able to do what I love. Every day that includes painting is a good day!
