For many years I avoided portraiture, but in November of 2015 I challenged myself by taking an online class from a fellow daily painter. Needless to say, I found it extremely challenging, but by painting my good-natured family members, it became easier to learn to achieve a likeness. I still have much to learn.
My primary reason for wanting to paint portraits was to focus my attention on a social issue that is important to me, specifically the child refugees in Lebanon and Palestine. In collaboration with ANERA (American Near East Refugee Aid), I am painting portraits of the children for what I call The Innocents Project to raise awareness and eventually funds to help ANERA serve these children with medical supplies, clothes, improvements to their schools, etc.
